A Google Sheet is easy to start with, but it isn't built for following up. Nobody gets an alert when a new row appears, two people can call the same lead, and there's no record of what was said. Leads get missed.
You don't have to stop using the sheet. Connect it to HemLead once, and each new row automatically becomes a lead your team can assign, call and track, while the sheet keeps working exactly as before.
What you need before you start
A HemLead account.
A Google Sheet with a header row — the first row names each column, for example: Name, Phone, Email, City.
Edit access to that sheet.
How to connect a Google Sheet, step by step
1
Create the connection in HemLead
In HemLead, open Marketing → Google Sheets and click + Connect a Sheet. Give it a name (the sheet's title works well) and click Create.

2
Open the tab with your leads
Open your Google Sheet and click the tab at the bottom that holds your leads.
3
Open Apps Script
In the sheet's menu, click Extensions → Apps Script. A new browser tab opens. Apps Script is Google's built-in tool for small scripts inside your own sheet.

4
Paste HemLead's script
Delete everything in the editor. In HemLead, click Copy next to the script, paste it into the editor, and press Ctrl + S (Mac: Cmd + S) to save.

5
Click Run
Click Run in the toolbar.
6
Allow access, once
Google asks for permission the first time: Review permissions → choose your account → Advanced → Go to … (unsafe) → Allow. This warning is normal. Google shows it for any script it hasn't reviewed, and this is your own script in your own sheet.

7
Map your columns
Back in HemLead, refresh the page. Your sheet's columns appear under 3. Map your sheet's columns to Lead fields. Check the suggested matches (at least one column must go to First Name) and click Save Mapping.

That's it
HemLead checks the sheet every minute and every time it's edited. There is no extra setup and no "trigger" to create.
What you get
Works with any tool that writes to a Google Sheet — website forms, Google Forms, Zapier, or rows typed by your team.
New rows become leads within about a minute.
No half-filled leads. If someone types a row one cell at a time, HemLead adds the later cells to the same lead — no duplicates, no missing details.
No double imports. A row that has already been imported is never imported again.
Tips
Keep the header row in row 1 and don't rename those columns after mapping, so HemLead's matches stay correct.
Make sure every row has a name in the column you map to First Name. That's the one required field.
If your sheet has several tabs, open the leads tab before you click Run. The script works on the tab that's open.
Connecting more than one sheet? Name each connection after its sheet so you can tell them apart on the Google Sheets page.
Common problems
Nothing arrives. The script was pasted but Run was never clicked, or permission wasn't allowed. Paste it again and click Run.
The Google Sheets page warns that the sheet hasn't checked in. Paste the script again and click Run once.
A row was skipped. Rows with no name are skipped — fill in the column mapped to First Name.
The wrong tab was connected. With several tabs in one sheet, open the leads tab and click Run again.
